About the game

Looming above the apocalyptic wasteland is Twofold Tower – a mysterious, sprawling monolith of a thousand rooms. Enter at your own risk, for inside monsters lurk in the shadows; laws of nature are treated as mere suggestions; and forbidden knowledge is everywhere to be found…

Narrative

The narrative is an integral part of Twofold Tower, and is made up of three distinct parts:

  • Dialogue, in which a handful of colourful characters try to come to terms with the world having ended.

  • Satirical snippets, which flesh out the broken fantasy world in which the game takes place, written in a style reminiscent of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

  • Poetry, largely centred around the perils and limits of reason, and employing a mixture of sincerity and humour.

While never obscure or difficult just for the sake of it, the narrative does respect your intelligence, and brings together ideas from many different areas, including science, philosophy, spirituality, and religion.

Goodies

Every copy of Twofold Tower includes its soundtrack in a lossless format, and three exclusive ebooks:

  • Thinking About Thinky Games (80+ pages/~30k words): A full-length meditation on puzzle game design, covering both high-level concepts and practicalities.

  • There is No Truth (80+ pages/~15k words): Contains most of the prose written for Twofold Tower, alongside developer commentary and other bonus material.

  • Self-Contained (60+ pages/~3k words): Contains most of the poetry written for Twofold Tower in the form of a standalone collection.

The books were written in parallel to the development of Twofold Tower, and are carefully formatted, and available in both PDF and EPUB formats.

For ethical, educational, and preservationist reasons, the source code and assets of Twofold Tower will eventually become source-available, upon which a copy of the source code will also be included with the game. However, there will still be usage restrictions ensuring that Twofold Tower remains commercially viable.
